The Ponca City Chamber held a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the new owners of A+ Printing located at 119 N. 3rd Street. Cutting the ribbon are new owners Chad and Paige Winslow along with staff Tony Fairless and Marybeth Hughes. Holding the ribbon representing the chamber are Shane Blaes and Robyn Ryan. Check out this incredible print shop we have right here in Ponca City.
The Ponca City Chamber Board and the Ponca Politics Committee had an elected officials appreciation picnic. Shown with our elected officials, that could attend, are Chamber Chair Mandy Morris and Ponca Politics Committee Chair Bruce DeMuth. We had state, city, school and county officials attend our picnic.
The Ponca City Concert Hall is really coming along. What is taking place at Po-Hi is going to be incredible when we are showing potential people Ponca City. I am often asked to show people, that are being recruited for employment to Ponca City, around our city. If I had someone say, "my child plays football can I see your stadium?" I would get nervous. The artificial turf was impressive but beyond that it did not look good. Drab press box, old fencing, old ticket booths and poor workout facilities. But not now, thanks to our citizens we have one of the best athletic facilities in the state. Then if they said my child is in to performing arts. The band room is nice but the Howell and the Hutch, with window units, was a hard thing to get past. Now we will have one of the finest, if not the finest, concert hall in the state of Oklahoma. I am always so excited when I drive by my high school, it is so impressive! At my class reunion several of my classmates commented that Po-Hi is better today then when we went to school. Not a lot of schools can say that. Then with all the investments in our other schools including East, West and all the elementary's, you would be hard press to find a better rural school anywhere. You may wonder what else I'm asked about and that is a trail system. People want to ride and walk on an extended trail system. Our plans for Lake Ponca will do just that. Very exciting times for our city and schools!!
During the 32nd Ponca City Leadership class session on industry in Ponca City the class was unable to tour the Phillips 66 Refinery due to the turnaround that was taking place. This week the class toured Phillips 66 and learned about the company. They also got to have lunch in the historic Marland Board Room. Thank you Diane Anderson and Carla O'Neill.

Dear Mr. Rich Cantillon,
My name is Sara Frazier and I am a recruiter for DCCCA Tallgrass Family Services. Tallgrass is a non-profit agency contracted with OKDHS Child Welfare to recruit, certify and support foster homes across the entire state of Oklahoma. Reports reflect a strong need for foster homes within your county as more children placed in state custody are being placed outside of your county at an alarming rate. Placing children outside of your county makes it difficult for children to stay connected with their families, culture, and community. Below you will find OKDHS Statistics from April 2018 directly related to families involved with Child Welfare in Kay County.
In April 2018, Kay County alone had 259 children in OKDHS Custody. Of those 259 children, 62 Children from your county were placed in foster homes outside of Kay County and 14 children from other counties were residing in foster homes in Kay County. This indicates that Kay County alone needs a minimum of 49 new foster homes to keep children within their communities and county. This number has likely increased since April.
I am seeking to partner with those that are dedicated to helping children in foster care within Kay County. It is my hope that the Chamber of Commerce would like to participate in remedying the alarming rate of children being placed in OKDHS Custody and the lack of quality foster homes within the county.
I look forward to hearing from you and working with you on this endeavor. Below is my contact information.
