The 33rd Ponca City Leadership Class had a session on the history of Ponca City. It was a great day. It started at Standing Bear Museum, then meeting at the spring B.S. Barnes, founder and first Mayor of Ponca City. They made a stop at the City Hall Centennial Plaza. Then they were off to Marland's Grand Home, Wentz Camp and Pool, LA Cann Home and Gardens, Marland Estate, Pioneer Woman Museum, Poncan Theatre, Conoco Museum and ending the day at the Ponca City Mausoleum .
The class got to meet E.W. and Lydie Marland and hear their story. Rob Bodick and Jayne Detten are E.W. and Lydie. They both do a great job telling the Marland story.
We also had Rev. Mark Busch who told the story of a Methodist circuit rider, Christina Rich-Splawn told the story of a Ponca City salon girl. Jack Busch told the story of a boy who made the Land Run of 1893. They all did a great job. I played B.S. Barnes our founder and first Mayor. Luke Garrison played Lew Wentz.
Ponca Young Employees had a luncheon with guest speakers Shasta Scott, Judge Turner, Stuart Powell and Garrett Bowers. The next PYE event is at Ody's on Thursday, October 11 starting at 6:30 p.m.
I will never tire of taking photos of our incredible Marland Mansion. Ponca City is so fortunate to have this Palace on the P rairie ! Thank you to our Parks and Recreation Department for an outstanding job with the grounds. They are beautiful!
